Rhythmic Pyramid: Pulse

Rhythmic Pyramid: Pulse — Sample Activity

This is one activity from a content bank of 600+ classroom-ready music activities. Explore it anytime and unlock them all with Kidstrument.

Kidstrument is made up of activities that are repeated and remixed to offer varied and flexible teaching. Each activity is part of a wider module with many versions.

Overview

Join Sarah and Pete the Pilot in the Rhythm Control room to explore the idea of pulse in music. The pulse is the steady beat that helps musicians stay in time — it’s what makes you want to tap your foot or nod your head when you hear music. In this activity, children will listen carefully to music and try to find and move with the pulse. Let’s learn to keep the beat together!

Teacher Tip: Encourage children to sit or stand with enough space to move their bodies — model clapping, stepping, or nodding to the beat. Count them in with “1, 2, 3, 4” to help them find the pulse together, and ask them how the music makes them want to move.
