Read That Rhythm

Read That Rhythm — Sample Activity

This is one activity from a content bank of 600+ classroom-ready music activities. Explore it anytime and unlock them all with Kidstrument.

Kidstrument is made up of activities that are repeated and remixed to offer varied and flexible teaching. Each activity is part of a wider module with many versions.

Overview

Work through the Read That Rhythm videos in order, as each one gradually introduces new notes and rests. This steady progression helps pupils build confidence and accuracy step by step.

Once you feel the class are ready, you can begin to mix things up by showing the rhythms in a random order to see how well they can recognise and perform them without the video prompts. For example, you might work through the first ten videos, then rotate those rhythms at random until the class are secure, before moving on to the next set of ten. This approach keeps practice varied, engaging, and encourages children to become truly independent rhythm readers.
