Curriculum Designer (Build Your Own Music Lessons)

Use the Curriculum Designer to build, save, and reuse your own music lessons — using the full Kidstrument Content Bank — then drop them into a yearly grid and teach straight from your whiteboard, with coverage and progression built in.

What the Curriculum Designer is

Kidstrument includes a complete music curriculum from Early Years to Year 6. The Curriculum Designer is for schools that want the flexibility to shape delivery for their own context — mixed-age classes, assemblies, themed weeks, clubs, cover, staff strengths, and more.

It’s three connected tools: Lesson Builder (build & save lessons), My Grids (place lessons into a term plan), and School sharing (share curricula with other teachers from your school).

My Grids: place saved lessons into a term plan, tick lessons as taught, and swap tiles using the ⇄ handle.

Watch the walkthrough

This walkthrough shows the full flow: building a lesson from the Content Bank, saving it, placing it into your grid, launching it to teach, swapping tiles, and ticking lessons as taught.

  • Lesson Builder: pick activities, order them, save the lesson
  • My Grids: place lessons into Autumn / Spring / Summer / Other
  • Teach: “Go to lesson” launches instantly
  • Keep it tidy: tick as taught + swap tiles with ⇄

How it works (step-by-step)

This is the typical teacher workflow. Build once, place it into your plan, teach from the grid, then mark it as taught.

  1. Open the Content Bank (Zone of Inspiration).
Start in the Content Bank — 600+ practical primary activities across rhythm, pitch, listening, movement, singing, and instruments.
  2. Build and save a lesson in Lesson Builder.
Choose activities, sequence them, then save the lesson. Saved lessons become your personal library — easy to re-use, rename, and tidy up.
  3. Place lessons into My Grids (your term plan).
Choose a tab: Autumn, Spring, Summer, or Other. Each tab has 12 lesson tiles. Select any saved lesson for any tile (and reuse lessons wherever you need).
  4. Teach from the grid.
Click Go to lesson to launch instantly and teach straight from the screen. When you’ve taught it, use the taught tick to mark it complete.
  5. Swap tiles in seconds.
Use the ⇄ drag handle to swap lessons between tiles — quick, tidy, and no rebuilding.
  6. Share within your school (optional).
Share your curriculum so other teachers from your school can view, preview, and open it. Ideal for subject leaders: one clear shared structure, with flexibility for teachers.
